Midget League Scholarship (Adam Herold Memorial Award)

This award will be presented annually to the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League’s Top Defensive Defenseman who exemplifies superior leadership both on the ice and in the dressing room.

Each SU18AAAHL Team will be able to nominate one Defenseman chosen by his teammates. All teams will receive one vote to choose the recipient.

U18 AAA League Scholarship Criteria:

  • Defenseman on a SMAAAHL team
  • Leads team by being a positive example on and off the ice
  • Motivates teammates through his own play
  • Maintains a minimum 75% average in academic studies
  • Must attend a post-secondary institution (university, technological, regional college etc.) within one year after completion of Junior Hockey eligibility. The winner will receive the $1,000 scholarship once post-secondary enrolment is confirmed.

 

“Chuck” Heriot Memorial Scholarship

Lynn Charles “Chuck” Heriot, Regina, Sask., passed away suddenly on July 14, 1995, at the age of 62 years. During his somewhat short life, “Chuck” established himself as a loving and dedicated family man, a loyal employee, and having an endless commitment to the world of sports.

He acquired a deep passion for the game hockey through involvement with his sons while supporting them as father, fan, coach, and manager. His enthusiasm for the sport led him to become a volunteer for the Saskatchewan Midget “AAA” Hockey League. “Chuck” lived life to the fullest…leaving a legacy of love and dedication to his family and community!

As a tribute to “Chuck’s” memory, his family initiated the establishment of the “Chuck” Heriot Memorial Scholarship through the Saskatchewan Midget “AAA” Hockey League.

Criteria for the “Chuck” Heriot Memorial Scholarship Fund

1. Purpose:

The ‘Chuck’ Heriot Scholarship fund is available annually to be awarded to a qualifying player of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. The fund is intended to financially assist this player in pursuit of furthering his education in a recognized Post-Secondary Educational or Trade Institution…..eg., University, Poli-Tech, Police Academy, etc.

2. Criteria:

The player must have completed a minimum of the equivalent of ONE season in the SMAAAHL. The determination of ONE season will be at the discretion of the selection committee.
The player must have demonstrated a high level of sportsmanship, dedication and commitment in his pursuit of excellence in the game of hockey.
The player must have exhibited an exemplary degree of character and leadership both on and off the ice. His participation in extra-curricular activities outside the game of hockey within his community shall be an integral part of his application.
The player’s record of his academic achievements should be of an exceptional standard. The degree of his participation in school activities will indicate his work ethic and ability to multi-task while maintaining a focus on the game of hockey.
The player must have an unblemished record of character on the ice, in his schooling and in the community.
The player must have successfully completed one full year at a recognized institution as indicated in paragraph…… 1. Purpose.

3. Guidelines:

The ‘Chuck’ Heriot Memorial Scholarship Fund is available annually. Eligible players should submit their application promptly in their final year as a player in the SMAAAHL, no later than the last day of February of that season.
All applications must include letters of support from the following:
a. SMAAAHL Team (Coach and/or Manager)
b. Education Institution…Principal and/or Class Teacher/Professor
c. Extra Curricular/Community Activity…..Coordinator
d. Other….

4. Scholarship amount:

The amount of the annual scholarship is $1200.00

5. Disbursement:

While the winner is announced annually, the funds become available ONLY if the recipient meets all the criteria as indicated. The one-time Scholarship remains available to the winner for a period not exceeding 5 years following the player’s graduation from the SMAAAHL.
