SASKATOON – The Estevan Innovex Bears and Swift Current Legionnaires will go the distance in their first-round playoff series after Estevan won 4-2 Saturday night to force a fifth and deciding game Sunday in Speedy Creek.
“We managed the play…and our big time players stepped-up when we needed them,” said Estevan head coach Ryan Pilon.
The Legionnaires took a 2-1 lead to the second period, but Estevan scored twice in the opening five minutes (Rhys Petersmeyer and William Nicholson). That lead stood until an empty-netter with two seconds remaining.
Puck drop is 6:45 p.m. Sunday in Swift Current for the final game of this series – which has featured a bit of everything:
- There were off-ice incidents in each of the first two games involving fans
- The teams have combined to score 37 goals in four games
- Home-ice has ruled the series, with the home team winning each game so far
The winner of this series will travel to Regina for Game 1 of the semi-final round on Tuesday. The Regina Pat Canadians have been idle since Wednesday night.
