Saskatoon Contacts forward Kalan Lind has been named WHL's Player of the Month for November 2020.
What a start to the 2020-21 SMAAAHL season for it has been for Kalan Lind.
Lind, a Shaunavon, Sask. native has put the league on notice, as through six games with the Saskatoon Contacts, Lind has registered seven goals, seven assists and two game stars. His 2.3 points-per-game is first in the league among players who have suited up in five-or-more games this season.
Lind came to the Contacts after registering 120 points in 27 games with the Swift Current Broncos U15 AA squad of the SAAHL U15 last season, which led him to being selected as a first-rounder, sixth overall in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft by the Red Deer Rebels. Lind, who was one of four Saskatchewan-born players to be selected in the top-seven of the draft, now suits up alongside Riley Heidt and Brayden Yager on the Contacts, who were the second and third-overall selections respectively.
Lind elected to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Kole, who played two seasons with the Contacts, before ultimately playing parts of four seasons with the Kelowna Rockets and getting selected in 33rd overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.
Kalan has been a difference-maker for a Contacts team which hopped out to a tremendous start to the 2020-21 campaign, as before play was halted, they held a 5-1-0 record.
The 15-year-old forward recorded at-least a point in all six of the Contacts regular-season contests, receiving player of the game twice during that stretch. On Nov. 20th, Lind tallied two goals and an assist, registering a point on all three of the Contacts goals in a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Saskatoon Blazers, in the team’s final contest before play was put on pause.
Lind was particularly lethal on the powerplay, recording five points on the man-advantage on a unit which has had no trouble finding twine so far this season.
Lind, who was signed by the Rebels just days after the selection, will now be looking to turn his attention towards 2021, as the SMAAAHL looks to resume play in the new year.
